Every great artist utilizes a set of tools and techniques they have mastered over the course of many years. Teaching is an art as well and effective teachers are pros at using a common set of techniques that they have incorporated into their practice and adapted to fit their subject and personality. This session will provide the participants with techniques gathered from effective teachers that can be utilized immediately in the classroom to put students on the path to success.
The techniques employed by effective teachers can be broken into four major categories: Classroom Culture, Engagement, Expectations & Mastery. Each of those categories contain a subset of techniques. It is important to note that you don't have to use every technique and do it exactly as others do to be effective. Instead, think of these as tools in your toolbox you become more skillful using over time and you have your favorites you rely on the most because they fit the job you are trying to accomplish.
This category is what many people refer to as Classroom Management, but it goes beyond management because you can have a great classroom management plan and struggle to succeed. Focusing on the overall culture of the classroom, beyond implementing the "Plan" can get your closer to your goal of having successful students.
